Organisers of the Eko International Cup have announced that a one-month countdown to the much anticipated pre-season football tournament will begin on June 6, with major awareness campaigns and ticket sales launching simultaneously.
SKI-Hi Entertainment, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, will host the tournament, which is set to run from July 6 to July 13 at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos. The event will feature eight teams, including four from Nigeria Remo Stars, Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars, and Enyimba of Aba and four continental clubs FC Kallon (Sierra Leone), Hearts of Oak (Ghana), SuperSport United (South Africa), and FC Dadje (Benin Republic).
Onome Obruthe, Executive Director of Publicity and Strategy for the Local Organising Committee, revealed that significant groundwork has already been laid, including roadshows and community outreach. โThis time, we are ready to create more awareness in the days ahead starting from June 6, which is exactly one month to the beginning of the competition,โ he stated.
Corporate sponsors, including MTN and Bigi Drinks, are backing the tournament, while ticket sales will go live online starting the same day the countdown begins. Fans can expect two matches daily during the week-long tournament.
With the buzz around the Eko International Cup already growing, organisers aim to elevate the eventโs profile through strategic campaigns and public engagement ahead of its kick-off.

We believe the Eko International Cup is more than just a pre-season tournament itโs an ambitious showcase of footballโs growing cultural and commercial power in West Africa. By uniting top clubs from across the region and leveraging strategic partnerships, the event has the potential to redefine Lagos as a hub for elite football preparation and entertainment.
The one-month countdown, kicking off on June 6, is a smart move. It signals intent, builds anticipation, and gives fans and stakeholders time to engage meaningfully. Itโs refreshing to see local football initiatives take marketing and fan interaction seriously roadshows, digital ticketing, and partner-led campaigns are all steps in the right direction.
We are particularly encouraged by the diversity of participating teams. With heavyweights like Enyimba and Hearts of Oak on board, alongside clubs from South Africa and Benin, the tournament promises not just flair but competitive edge. It also opens the door for talent scouting, regional collaborations, and deeper football diplomacy.
The organisers have momentum on their side now, execution is key. If the next 30 days are used effectively, the Eko International Cup could become a blueprint for how to energise regional football while giving fans a reason to believe in the gameโs local promise again.
