Barau FC are setting their sights higher this season. Head coach Eugene Agagbe says the Kano club, now in their second successive campaign in the Nigerian top flight, have the experience and belief to push for bigger honours than last term.
The Maliya Boys made a strong start to the new season, thrashing Nasarawa United 3-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on August 30. They will look to carry that momentum into their next fixture, away to fellow promoted side Kun Khalifat FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Both clubs earned their place in the NPFL through the 2024/25 NNL Super 8 playoffs in Asaba.
Debut Season Sets The Platform
Agagbe, a former Lobi Stars head coach, pointed to Barau FC’s eighth-place finish on 52 points last season as proof the club is capable of more. He argued that with that experience behind them, aiming higher this time is a reasonable ambition rather than an overreach.
He acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting that every side in the league has prepared well, but said his team is ready to match that and give its best in every single game, trusting that consistent effort will bring success over the course of the season.
