Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu was substituted at half-time during Blackburn Rovers’ 3-1 win over Millwall on Saturday, with head coach Tony Mowbray explaining that the change was down to illness rather than a new injury.
A Tough Week Before The Match
Alebiosu had been feeling unwell in the days leading up to the game, limiting his training to light recovery work rather than full sessions. Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Mowbray explained that a heavy run of matches in a short space of time appeared to have caught up with the defender, who had done little more than light drills and stretching in the build up.
Tonsillitis Suspected
Mowbray said the club’s doctor suspected tonsillitis was behind Alebiosu’s condition during the week, and it remains to be seen whether that has flared up again. He described the issue as more illness than injury, and said he does not expect it to be a muscle problem that keeps the defender out for any significant length of time.
