Super Eagles forward Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo Simy continued his strong start to the season by scoring in Salernitana’s 3-1 defeat to Udinese in the Coppa Italia. Despite Simy’s equalizing goal in the 25th minute, Udinese regained control with goals from Lorenzo Lucca and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp to advance to the next round, while Salernitana were eliminated from the competition.
Though Salernitana is struggling in the league, currently sitting 14th with seven points from six matches, Simy’s form could open doors for more international appearances, as he has only featured for the Super Eagles four times since his debut in 2018.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian players Maduka Okoye and Kingsley Ehizibue were unused substitutes for Udinese in the match.
Editorial
Simy’s goal scoring ability continues to be a highlight for Salernitana in what has been a difficult season. Despite the team’s struggles, his consistent performances in both Serie B and the Coppa Italia show his resilience and quality as a striker. His experience and finishing could prove valuable for Salernitana as they aim to improve their position in the league.
This marked Simy’s first goal in the Coppa Italia this season, adding to his contributions in Serie B, where he has scored two goals and provided an assist in five matches. His total goal involvements for the season now stand at four in seven games.
We believe that Simy’s current form should earn him consideration for more international opportunities with the Super Eagles. His ability to perform under pressure, combined with his experience in European football, makes him a valuable asset for any team. While Salernitana’s exit from the Coppa Italia is unfortunate, Simy’s performance could pave the way for future successes.
