Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the Delta State Government, has assured the public of Delta State’s full preparedness ahead of the 8th National Youth Games, set to begin on September 12, 2024, in Asaba. After inspecting various facilities designated for the event, Dr. Emu expressed satisfaction with the competition venues, accommodation, and transportation arrangements. The facilities inspected included the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, which will host the main events, and the newly upgraded Cenotaph sports facilities. The state has also prepared accommodations, including the Dennis Osadebey University hostels, which are expected to house about 70% of the athletes. Dr. Emu affirmed that the infrastructure, including bedding, toilets, electricity, water supply, and food provisions, is well-maintained and ready for use.
Dr Emu highlighted Delta State’s experience in hosting large scale events and assured that the same level of excellence would be applied to the National Youth Games. He added that Asaba, known for its hospitality, is prepared to welcome athletes, officials, and spectators to enjoy a smooth and successful event.
