Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka is set for a late fitness test ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup third-round clash against Aston Villa, after picking up an injury in Sunday’s heavy 5-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Forced Off Late In A Difficult Afternoon
Onyeka was substituted with 18 minutes remaining against Brighton, replaced by Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi. It capped a tough day for Coventry, who were also reduced to ten men when Onyeka’s international teammate Taiwo Awoniyi was sent off in the 53rd minute.
Awoniyi Suspended, Squad Further Depleted
Awoniyi will now miss the Aston Villa tie through suspension following his red card. Coventry will also be without Josh Eccles, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Luke Woolfenden and Haji Wright for the cup fixture, adding to the club’s growing list of absentees.
