Nigeria's Flamingos celebrating in WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup action

Nigeria’s Flamingos made a commanding start to their 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign, thrashing Niger Republic 5-0 in Yamoussoukro on Wednesday.

Chidi And Bashiru Put Nigeria In Control

The Flamingos dominated from the outset, dictating both tempo and possession. Captain Harmony Chidi broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with a well taken finish, before Awawu Bashiru doubled the lead soon after with a composed strike. Nigeria almost added a third before the break, but Adegbuyi’s effort was ruled out for offside, leaving the score at 2-0 at half time.

Sunday And Dunstan Seal A Resounding Win

Niger Republic struggled to contain Nigeria’s pace and movement after the restart, with the Flamingos continuing to probe for further openings. Their patience paid off late on when Ohunene Sunday added a third goal in the 83rd minute, before Mary Dunstan struck shortly afterward to make it four. Nigeria completed the emphatic 5-0 victory to open their campaign on a high note.
