El-Kanemi Warriors have advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau’s UDIB in the second leg of their tie in Bissau on Sunday night.
First-Leg Cushion Does The Job
The Maiduguri-based club progressed 3-1 on aggregate, having secured a commanding 3-0 win in the first leg on home soil. That cushion proved enough to absorb Sunday’s narrow away defeat and see the Pride of the Northeast through to the next round.
A Tough Test Against Raja Casablanca Awaits
El-Kanemi will now face a significant step up in quality, drawn against Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in the second preliminary round. The first leg is scheduled for the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne between October 16 and 18, with Raja hosting the return fixture in Casablanca between October 23 and 25.
The winner of the tie over the two legs will secure a place in the lucrative group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
