Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has surprised her former grassroots coach with a brand new Toyota Highlander as a thank you for his role in her football career. The gift went to Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa, known as Coach Osahon, and it has drawn warm praise from the club where she began.

Osahon is the chairman and head coach of FC Robo International, the Lagos-based club that nurtured Oshoala from 2009, when she first began attracting attention as a teenager. FC Robo released a formal statement after the presentation, and the news spread quickly on social media.

The club called the gesture “a beautiful demonstration of gratitude” and said it showed that she has not forgotten the people who played important roles in her journey.

The statement also recalled how Osahon has been part of her growth since her teenage days. It said he provided guidance, support and an environment in which she could nurture her dreams, and that it was heartwarming to see her still recognise that role years after rising to international fame.

This is not the first time Oshoala has given back to the club. FC Robo noted that she previously donated a bus to the club during her early years playing in Europe. From FC Robo To The Global Stage

Oshoala left FC Robo Queens in 2013 and went on to play for Rivers Angels, Liverpool Ladies, Arsenal Women, Dalian Quanjian, FC Barcelona Femení and Bay FC. She is now with Al Hilal in the Saudi Women’s Premier League, and fans who follow Nigerian women’s football can check this Bet9ja promotion for Nigerian women’s football fans.

Her record is remarkable. Oshoala has won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award a record six times, in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023, and in 2022 she became the first African woman nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or. At Barcelona she scored 117 goals in 162 appearances and won three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles.

She is still scoring now. On Thursday, November 5, she netted in Al Hilal’s 4-0 win over NEOM, and earlier this year she scored the winner in the Super Falcons’ 1-0 victory over Zambia at WAFCON 2026.

Appreciation Across Nigerian Football

Oshoala is not the only Nigerian international to thank a coach in this way. Wilfred Ndidi gifted his former grassroots coach Nduka Ugbade a new SUV, and Paul Onuachu rewarded his own former grassroots coach with a brand-new car recently.

These gestures matter, because grassroots coaches rarely get public recognition for developing young players. A gift like this shows how much the early mentors mean to those who go on to the top.

For Osahon and FC Robo, it is a proud moment. A club that helped shape one of Africa’s greatest players now has more proof that its work still matters.
