Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has committed her future to Washington Spirit after signing a new two-year contract with the National Women’s Soccer League club. The deal keeps the 22-year-old in Washington through 2028, with a mutual option for 2029.

Abiodun said the Spirit has become her home over the past year and that she has seen a lot of growth in her game with the club. She said she looks forward to contributing to its success over the next three seasons. Fans following Nigerian women abroad can read Bet9ja promotion code in a nutshell.

Abiodun joined the Spirit from the University of Pittsburgh in January 2025 on a three-year contract with an option for 2028. She spent the first half of 2025 on loan at Dallas Trinity in the USL Super League, after the move was announced in February.

Washington recalled her in August 2025, after she won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Falcons, and she quickly became a vital part of the Spirit’s run to the NWSL Championship game.

In total, she has made 21 appearances for Adrián González’s side, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

The new contract comes while she recovers from a hip injury that ended her 2026 season. Abiodun was placed on the NWSL’s 45-day injury list in early September, then moved to the season-ending list, and she underwent successful surgery later that month.

She had made nine appearances, four of them starts, before the injury. New Bet9ja users can claim Bet9ja’s YOHAIG newcomer reward.

Abiodun is expected to miss upcoming Super Falcons assignments while she rehabilitates. The national team has had a difficult period after failing to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

A new contract while injured shows the club’s belief in her. For Nigeria, a fit and sharp Abiodun in defensive midfield will be important as the Falcons rebuild.
