Former players of Bayelsa United have donated a set of jerseys to the club as it prepares for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League season, despite the team’s relegation from the NPFL.
Ex-Players Rally Around The Club
Presenting the jerseys, former club chairman and leader of the ex-players’ group, Dr Ebiki Timitimi, said the gesture was their way of contributing to Bayelsa United’s preparations ahead of pre-season friendlies. He said, “We decided to give a set of jerseys to the club,” and appealed to critics of the club to engage management constructively rather than passing judgment without full knowledge of the situation.
Board Welcomes A Timely Boost
Receiving the jerseys on behalf of the club’s chairman and management board, Godson Ekadi described the donation as a significant show of solidarity from a key part of the Bayelsa United family. He said it marks the first major support the club has received from stakeholders ahead of the new season, calling it, “A wonderful statement,” and adding that the gesture already feels like the start of a positive campaign.
A Call For More Backing
Ekadi went on to appeal to corporate organisations and international oil companies operating in Bayelsa State to follow the ex-players’ example, arguing that the display of unity makes it easier for brands to want to associate with the club going forward.
