Whyte Ogbonda has returned to Rivers Angels for a second spell as head coach of the Port Harcourt based NWFL side. The experienced tactician was appointed on Wednesday, with Isaac Thomas Atonbere named his assistant and Sunday Uduh brought in as goalkeeper trainer.
Ogbonda Apologises For How He Left
Reflecting on his previous stint at the club, Ogbonda used the moment to address unfinished business with supporters and Rivers State Commissioner for Sports Christopher Green, who he acknowledged were unhappy with the way his first spell ended. He said, “I want to tell them that I’m very sorry for the way I left,” expressing regret over the circumstances of his earlier exit.
A Homecoming After Travelling The Country
Ogbonda also spoke of his happiness at returning to his home state after gaining experience working with clubs elsewhere in Nigeria, describing the move back to Rivers Angels as a welcome homecoming.
A Track Record Worth Building On
During his first spell in charge, Ogbonda guided the Jewels of Rivers to Federation Cup glory and came close to winning the NWFL league title. He will now look to build on that foundation as he begins his second stint at the helm.
