CS Sfaxien players celebrating against Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat away to CS Sfaxien in the second leg of their first preliminary round tie in Sfax on Sunday, with the Tunisian side overturning a 1-0 first leg deficit to win 2-1 on aggregate.

Belwafi Does The Damage

Iyed Belwafi proved the difference for the hosts, opening the scoring four minutes before the half-hour mark to level things up on aggregate. He completed his brace in the 67th minute to put CS Sfaxien firmly in control, and despite pushing hard for a way back into the tie, Shooting Stars could not find a breakthrough against a resolute home defence.

El-Kanemi Warriors Advance

There was better news elsewhere for Nigerian representatives in the competition, as El-Kanemi Warriors secured their place in the next round with a 3-1 aggregate win over Guinea-Bissau’s UDIB. The Maiduguri side will now face Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in the next round, with a place in the competition’s group stage on the line.
