Bendel Insurance have appointed Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie as the club’s new captain, with experienced striker Kayode Oke named as his deputy.
A Second Spell In Benin City
The 26 year old shot stopper recently returned to Bendel Insurance after a stint away from the club, most recently with Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars. He had previously enjoyed a strong first spell with the Benin Arsenals, making 33 league appearances during the 2023/24 season, performances that helped push him into Super Eagles reckoning.
Leadership Expectations
Having entrusted him with the armband on his return, the club is banking on Obasogie’s experience, his familiarity with the setup, and his exposure at both domestic and international level to provide steady leadership for Kennedy Boboye’s side as they look for greater consistency this season. Oke, a reliable attacking presence for the club, will support him as vice captain.
A Mixed Start To The Season
Bendel Insurance, former President Federation Cup champions, have made an uneven start to the 2026/27 NPFL campaign, picking up one win and one defeat from their opening two matches. The club will be hoping the new leadership pairing helps steady the ship as the season develops.
