Former Golden Eaglets captain Samson Tijani is on the move again. The Nigerian midfielder has joined Slovakian outfit FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova on loan for the 2026/27 season, arriving from Czech club Dukla Prague.
Built into the deal is an option for Podbrezova to sign Tijani permanently on a two-year contract once the loan spell concludes, giving both parties a route to a longer term arrangement if things go well.
Podbrezova Excited By New Arrival
Club general manager Miroslav Poliacek was pleased with the signing, describing Tijani as a creative, dynamic midfielder who brings a different profile to the squad and should add fresh impetus and quality in midfield. He also pointed to the player’s standing with the Nigerian national team as a mark of his quality, and wished him well in a Podbrezova shirt.
From Salzburg To Prague To Podbrezova
Tijani’s move to Dukla Prague came on a free transfer in June 2025 after he left Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg. He settled quickly in the Czech top flight, making 26 league appearances for Dukla before this latest switch.
Golden Eaglets Captain Turned Super Eagles Prospect
Tijani first made a name for himself as captain of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil. He has since stepped up to the senior national team, featuring for the Super Eagles at the 2026 Unity Cup in matches against Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
The 23 year old has three senior caps for Nigeria so far, and a fresh start in Slovakia gives him another platform to push his case for a bigger role with the three time African champions.
