Super Eagles winger Philip Otele is closing in on a move to Serie A side Lecce from Swiss Super League champions FC Basel.
The 26 year old spent last season on loan at Bundesliga club Hamburger SV, where he scored once in nine league appearances. Hamburg opted against activating the purchase clause in his loan deal, reportedly valued between €4.5 million and €5 million, allowing him to return to Basel.
According to reports, Lecce and FC Basel are expected to hold direct talks this week to finalise the transfer. Basel are believed to be seeking a fee of around €3 million for the Nigerian international, the same amount they paid UAE Pro League club Al Wahda to sign him in 2025.
Otele remains under contract with the Swiss club until June 2028, but a move to Italy now appears increasingly likely as negotiations gather pace. He has made five appearances for the Nigeria national team.
