Former Nigeria international Greg Etafia has been appointed goalkeeper coach of Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans, joining the club’s newly assembled technical crew under head coach Manqoba Mngqithi as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 43 year old began his coaching career in South Africa with Moroka Swallows in 2015 after hanging up his gloves, before being promoted to caretaker manager in March 2016 and leaving the club later that year.
In September 2016, Etafia took up the role of goalkeeper coach at Cape Town All Stars, where he was later handed caretaker managerial duties, guiding the club from the foot of the table to safety with a 14th-place finish while also leading them to the Round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup.
He has since built an extensive coaching résumé, serving as goalkeeper coach at South African clubs Baroka FC and TS Galaxy before securing this latest move to Young Africans.
During his playing career, Etafia featured for Lobi Stars and Plateau United in the NPFL before joining South African side Moroka Swallows in 2003. He spent 12 years with the Dube Birds, establishing himself as one of the club’s longest serving players, before ending his playing career with a brief spell at Highlands Park. He represented Nigeria at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as a member of the country’s U-23 team.
