FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles Stay 26th, Slip to Fourth in Africa
Nigeria’s global position held firm, but Egypt’s World Cup run pushed the Super Eagles down a place in the continental standings.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking, released on Monday, though Eric Chelle’s side slipped one place to fourth in Africa after being overtaken by Egypt.
The Super Eagles have not played since a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal in June, meaning the shift in the continental standings came from movement elsewhere rather than results of their own.
Egypt climbed to third in Africa on the back of an impressive run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Pharaohs reached the Round of 16 before a narrow 3-2 defeat to eventual runners up Argentina.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked side, holding sixth position globally after reaching the World Cup quarter finals, while Senegal stay second on the continent despite dropping three places in the global rankings. Algeria round out the continent’s top five after slipping one spot themselves.
At the top of the global rankings, newly crowned World Cup champions Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position, with beaten finalists Argentina dropping to second. France, England, and Brazil complete the world’s top five. FIFA has confirmed the next update to the rankings will be published on October 7, 2026.
