Aliyu Zubairu has been named the new head coach of Sudanese club Al Ahli Madani, signing a two-year contract to take charge of a side preparing for CAF Confederation Cup football next season.
Zubairu arrives after a productive spell at Egyptian second-division club Telecom SC, where he guided the team to the semi final of the Egyptian Cup last season. The 62-year-old replaces Sudanese coach Farouk Jabra, who departed Al Ahli Madani after his contract expired.
Speaking after his appointment, Zubairu described the move as another major challenge, pointing to the club’s history and ambition, and said he was looking forward to working with the players, management, and supporters to help the team achieve its goals in continental competition.
Zubairu built his reputation in Nigerian football by guiding El-Kanemi Warriors to the President Federation Cup title in 2024, a triumph that also secured the club’s promotion to the NPFL. He went on to take charge of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and managing the side at the subsequent FIFA U-20 World Cup.
