Portuguese side Sporting Braga have signed Nigerian defender Adebisi Olamikun from NPFL club Inter Lagos, with the move confirmed by Inter Lagos on their official X account on Sunday.
Reports indicate the 18-year-old has joined Braga in a long-term deal believed to be worth around 50,000 euros. Olamikun has already arrived in Portugal and will begin integrating with the club’s youth setup, with the long term aim of working his way into the senior team.
According to Transfermarkt, Olamikun becomes the eighth Nigerian player to join Sporting Braga, following in the footsteps of former players including AFCON 2013 title winner Elderson Echiejile.
Founded in January 1921, Braga are nicknamed the Braguistas, as well as Os Arsenalistas, a nod to a shirt colour resembling that of English club Arsenal. The club have played their home matches at the Estadio Municipal de Braga since 2003, having previously used the Estadio 1 de Maio, now home to Braga’s reserve side.
Braga became one of Portugal’s more decorated clubs during the 2000s, winning three Portuguese Cups and three Portuguese League Cups, along with the final edition of the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2008, the only Portuguese club to do so. They also reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2011 and made their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League in the 2010-11 season, eliminating Celtic and Sevilla en route after finishing second in the Primeira Liga the previous year.
