Bright Osayi-Samuel could be heading back to Fenerbahce, with reports in Turkey suggesting the Super Eagles defender is keen on a return to the club only a year after joining Birmingham City on a free transfer.
The 28 year old spent four and a half productive seasons in Istanbul before moving to England last summer in search of regular football in a new setting. According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Osayi-Samuel has re-emerged as a target for Fenerbahce as the club prepares for the new season under returning manager Ismail Kartal, and is said to have already held talks with Kartal about a possible move back to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. Other reports in Turkey have gone further, describing the player as eager to leave Birmingham and rejoin the club where he enjoyed some of the best form of his career.
Osayi-Samuel remains a popular figure among Fenerbahce supporters from his previous spell, during which he established himself as one of the more consistent full backs in the Turkish Super Lig and won the Turkish Cup. Fenerbahce’s hierarchy and coaching staff, however, are yet to make a final call on whether to proceed with a deal.
The development marks a notable turn in Osayi-Samuel’s situation, coming after a previously reported move to Besiktas collapsed at a late stage last year. He made 29 appearances for Birmingham City last season, but increased competition for places and the club’s current direction could open the door to a exit this summer.
A return to regular European-level football with Fenerbahce could also strengthen his case with the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which are set to begin in September.
