Fredrick Ruled Out of AFCON 2025 After Knee Injury Blow

Benjamin Fredrick, the promising young defender of the Super Eagles, is set to miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) after sustaining a knee injury while training with his Belgian club, FCV Dender EH.

According to reports, the 20 year old picked up the knock during a training session last Friday at Dender.  This comes not long after his senior debut for Nigeria when he featured against Jamaica in May  a run which had earned him a regular place in the national side.

Fredrick had started the last six matches for the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle, becoming a reliable pillar of the defence.  In domestic football, the defender has been on loan at Dender from Brentford FC for the 2025–26 season. He missed Dender’s recent 2–1 win over Royal Antwerp FC  an absence now attributed to the knee injury.

Despite hopes that he might recover in time, medical assessments and public confirmation suggest he will only return to action after the AFCON finals.
