Germany Cap-Ties Nnamdi Collins, Super Eagles Lose Promising Defender

Germany’s football association has secured the international future of highly-rated centre-back Nnamdi Collins, effectively preventing Nigeria from capping him for the Super Eagles. The defender, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, made his senior debut for Germany in their opening UEFA 2026 World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in Bratislava. Since it was a competitive fixture, Collins is now officially tied to Germany under FIFA rules.

Born in Düsseldorf, the defender was previously eligible to represent Nigeria through paternal heritage. However, having turned 21 this year on January 10 he is now ineligible for any future switch of national allegiance.

His senior debut was far from ideal; Collins struggled in the first half and was substituted at half-time for David Raum, as Germany suffered a 2–0 defeat.

This marks the latest in a string of dual nationals Germany has cap-tied joining the likes of Jamal Musiala, Karim Adeyemi, Kevin Schade, and the Nmecha brothers.
