Oshoala Declares Super Falcons Ready to Reclaim WAFCON Crown

Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala has expressed unwavering confidence that the Super Falcons are poised to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title at the upcoming tournament in Morocco (July 5–26, 2025). The six‑time African Women’s Player of the Year emphasised that the team has regrouped strongly, blending seasoned stars with emerging talent.

Describing the current squad as fiercely competitive, Oshoala remarked, “As usual, we have to focus on 2025 and grab another opportunity to try again and get back to winning ways and bringing trophies home like we used to.” She pointed out that the team’s mindset is stronger than ever, with players now having to earn their places no one is guaranteed selection.

Head coach Justine Madugu has recalled Oshoala alongside key figures such as Ashleigh Plumptre, Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Francisca Ordega in his 24‑player squad. Training sessions commenced in Abuja before heading to a pre‑tournament camp in Lisbon and a friendly against Ghana’s Black Queens on 29 June.

With a record 11 WAFCON titles under their belt, Nigeria will open their Group B campaign in Casablanca on 6 July against Tunisia, before matches against Botswana and Algeria. Following a disappointing fourth‑place finish in 2022, the Falcons are determined to restore dominance across the continent.
