Joseph Olugbenga Olowu, the Ibadan-born defender who spent 13 years at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, is on course to join Stockport County on a free transfer. The 25 year old centre-back will sign a three year deal effective 1 July 2025, following the expiration of his contract at Doncaster Rovers.
Olowu’s journey began in 2008 at Arsenal, where he progressed through the youth ranks before departing in summer 2021. That summer, he briefly trialled with Manchester United’s under‑23 squad. He then signed with Doncaster Rovers in September 2021, initially on a short-term deal.
At Doncaster, Olowu grew into a key player. He made 121 league appearances and scored eight goals. In March 2023, he secured a new two and a half year contract, reflecting his importance to the team . Despite missing part of the promotion-winning campaign for recovery from injury, he contributed to Doncaster’s rise back to League One as champions of League Two in 2024–25.
