Bruno Onyemaechi has capped off a dream start to life in Greece by winning the Greek Super League title with Olympiacos. The Super Eagles left-back played the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s 1-0 win over AEK Athens, a result that secured Olympiacos’ 48th top-flight crown the most in Greek football history.
The vital win, sealed by Moroccan forward Ayoub El Kaabi in the 55th minute, came during the intense four-team Championship play-offs. For Onyemaechi, it was his sixth league appearance since arriving at the club in January.
With three matches left to play, Olympiacos have already amassed 66 points an unassailable lead at the summit. The title is their first since the 2021/2022 season and comes at a particularly special time, coinciding with the club’s centenary celebration.
The league victory could be the first of two trophies this season, as Olympiacos are set to face OFI in the Greek Cup final on May 17, putting them on the brink of a domestic double. In European competition, they also enjoyed success, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Elsewhere, Panathinaikos moved into second place in the playoff standings with a 3-1 win over PAOK, while Aris are close to locking in fifth place. In Super League 2, Larissa and Kifissia are set for promotion to the top flight.
