Tyronne Ebuehi has expressed relief and gratitude after making his long-awaited return from a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for over a year. The Nigeria international was forced off in Empoli’s Serie A clash against Bologna on March 15, 2024, due to a cruciate ligament injury that required surgery and an extended recovery period.
The right back finally returned to the pitch last weekend, coming on in Empoli’s draw with Cagliari his first appearance of the season. Reflecting on his journey back, Ebuehi admitted the road to recovery was emotionally and physically taxing.
“It was the second serious injury of my career. I was out for a year and it was very difficult. There were hard moments, but now I’m just happy to be back,”.
Now fully fit, the 28 year old is aiming to help his club avoid relegation as they sit 18th in the Serie A standings. “I feel ready and determined to give my contribution to escape relegation. We must give everything until the end,” he said, adding that grit and commitment are part of the DNA of Italian football.
Empoli boss Roberto D’Aversa will be counting on Ebuehi’s experience and energy as they fight for survival in the closing stages of the season.

Tyronne Ebuehi’s story is a reminder that behind every injury layoff is a battle far deeper than medical charts or recovery timelines. For footballers, time off the pitch isn’t just missed minutes it’s missed opportunities, shaken confidence, and emotional strain. And yet, Ebuehi has emerged from it all with his spirit intact and his ambition renewed.
This isn’t his first rodeo with a long-term injury. He’s been here before. But what makes his return remarkable is the sheer resilience it takes to go through the same battle again and come back believing you still have something to give. That belief is what makes champions, regardless of the scoreboard.
Empoli are in a precarious position, clinging to hopes of survival in a brutal Serie A campaign. But now they have a fighter back someone who knows what it means to sweat for every point, not just for league standings, but for personal redemption.
We believe Ebuehi’s comeback is more than a boost for Empoli it’s a lesson in perseverance for every young Nigerian player watching from afar. Injuries will come, setbacks are inevitable, but comebacks? They’re for the brave.
Let’s rally behind him. His story isn’t over it’s just getting compelling again.
