The English Football Association has taken a step to secure promising Arsenal academy player Emerson Nwaneri, who has Nigerian roots, by inviting him to their U15 Talent Identification camp. Emerson, a schoolboy at Arsenal, is the younger brother of Ethan Nwaneri, who recently made history as the youngest Nigerian born player to score in the Premier League.

Patrick Bassey, head coach of Nigeria’s Future Eagles, has expressed openness to welcoming dual eligible players like Emerson to train with the squad. “Yes, if their parents contact us,” Bassey explained, citing a precedent with a Nigerian-Canadian player who recently joined the team’s training.

Under FIFA rules, players under 17 with dual nationality can represent multiple nations until they are provisionally capped. Ethan Nwaneri, Emerson’s elder sibling, became provisionally cap tied to England in 2022 after playing in a European U17 Championship qualifier. However, both brothers remain eligible to play for Nigeria through their father.
