With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz ruled out for the season, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has earned a temporary promotion to Arsenal’s first team squad. The young forward trained with senior players ahead of the Gunners’ London derby against Fulham.
Jesus and Havertz are sidelined with long-term injuries ACL and hamstring, respectively creating opportunities for emerging talents like Butler-Oyedeji. The Hale End Academy graduate trained alongside Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling, Ben White, Martin Ødegaard, and others at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday.
Ethan Nwaneri, another Nigerian Football Federation target, also featured in training after returning from duty with England’s U21s.
Butler-Oyedeji has made Arsenal’s Premier League bench eight times this season and made his senior debut in the UEFA Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb. Though unused in fixtures against Girona, PSV Eindhoven, and Manchester United, his presence around the first team signals the trust being placed in him by manager Mikel Arteta.
