With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz ruled out for the season, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has earned a temporary promotion to Arsenalโs first team squad. The young forward trained with senior players ahead of the Gunners’ London derby against Fulham.
Jesus and Havertz are sidelined with long-term injuries ACL and hamstring, respectively creating opportunities for emerging talents like Butler-Oyedeji. The Hale End Academy graduate trained alongside Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling, Ben White, Martin รdegaard, and others at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday.
Ethan Nwaneri, another Nigerian Football Federation target, also featured in training after returning from duty with Englandโs U21s.
Butler-Oyedeji has made Arsenalโs Premier League bench eight times this season and made his senior debut in the UEFA Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb. Though unused in fixtures against Girona, PSV Eindhoven, and Manchester United, his presence around the first team signals the trust being placed in him by manager Mikel Arteta.
Previously, he gained valuable experience during loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley, making 25 combined appearances in the EFL.
