Editorial

We welcome the NWFLโ€™s decision to host the 2025 Championship in Abia State and view it as a strong vote of confidence in the regionโ€™s capacity to support womenโ€™s football. By staging the second-tier league in Abiriba and Umuahia, the NWFL demonstrates its commitment not only to competition but also to inclusivity and growth across Nigeria.

This Championship is more than a tournament itโ€™s a gateway. For 17 clubs and their players, it provides an invaluable opportunity to climb into the Premiership. The structured arrival, draws, rest days, and fair grouping speak to an organisation striving for professionalism and player welfare.

Holding the event in Abia brings fans, local officials, and communities into closer proximity with grassroots football, allowing sport to inspire beyond the pitch. We believe that nurturing the second tier is critical to sustainable development, ensuring that success in the top flight remains grounded in solid foundations. Abiaโ€™s hosting could well mark a milestone in the NWFLโ€™s evolution and in the broader advancement of womenโ€™s football.
