Crystal Palace Loanee David Ozoh Ruled Out for the Rest of the Season

Crystal Palace owned midfielder David Ozoh has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a thigh injury, Derby County manager John Eustace confirmed ahead of their Championship clash against Middlesbrough.

Ozoh, who joined Derby on loan last July in search of more playing time, was stretchered off during their last league match against Millwall. Following medical tests, it was confirmed that his injury will keep him sidelined for an extended period.

Unfortunately, David will be out for the rest of the season now. “It’s a big injury and a big loss to the group for sure,” Eustace told reporters.

Despite his injury, the manager emphasized that Ozoh would remain close to the team and maintain his connection with the squad. He’s a fantastic character, a gentleman, and gets on well with the group, Eustace added.

Born in Valencia, Spain, Ozoh is also eligible to represent England but has previously expressed his willingness to play for Nigeria. However, he revealed two years ago that the Nigeria Football Federation NFF had yet to reach out to him.

Since arriving at Derby, the 19-year-old midfielder has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring his first senior goal in a 3-0 win over Bristol City last August.

Editorial

David Ozohโ€™s injury comes as a significant setback, not just for Derby County but also for his long-term development as a player. At 19, he was gaining valuable first-team experience in the Championship, and a season-ending injury at this stage could slow his progress.

His time at Derby has been a mix of promise and setbacks. While his performances hinted at his potential, injuries have disrupted his rhythm, limiting his impact. Given his age, however, there is still plenty of time for him to recover and regain his form.

Ozohโ€™s openness to representing Nigeria is an interesting subplot. While the NFF has yet to engage him, his profile as a young, physical midfielder with Premier League experience makes him an exciting prospect for the Super Eagles. If Nigeria acts swiftly, they could secure a talented player before England considers him for their youth setup.

The focus for Ozoh now is on recovery. How well he returns from this setback will determine his chances of breaking into Crystal Palaceโ€™s first team or securing another loan move for further development.
