Abia Warriors head coach Imama Amapakabo has declared that his team remains firmly in the race to return to African inter club football after their hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kwara United in Matchday 27 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The win snapped a six-game winless run and boosted belief in a possible top-three finish that could secure qualification for the 2026/27 CAF competitions.
The decisive goal came from Casmir Azubuike in the 29th minute at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, giving Warriors a vital three points and a morale-boosting result as the league campaign enters its decisive phase.
Amapakabo stressed that with 11 games remaining, the NPFL title race and fight for continental spots is wide open. He reiterated that Abia Warriors will continue to battle week-in, week-out with the aim of finishing in the top three the usual threshold for CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup qualification.
“The league is still on,” Amapakabo said, underscoring his side’s desire to remain in close proximity to the league leaders and maintain belief in their continental aspirations. The former Nigeria junior international also admitted the victory was a relief after a difficult spell but believes it could spark improved results moving forward.
