Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially parted ways with South African Premier Soccer League club Chippa United after four years, the club confirmed on Thursday. The Nigerian shot stopper requested to depart and the Chilli Boys agreed to grant his release.
The 29 year old’s exit brings an end to a notable spell in South African football that began in 2022 when he joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
In a statement, Chippa United said Nwabali formally asked to leave the club and that his request was carefully considered before being approved. The club expressed gratitude for his years of service, commitment and professionalism.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club,” the statement read, adding that his contribution “will always be appreciated” and wishing him success in the next stage of his career.
Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 after impressing in the Nigerian top flight and quickly established himself as a key figure for the club, making more than 70 appearances and serving as captain.
His performances in South Africa also helped solidify his place as Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper, earning regular selections for the Super Eagles.
The Nigerian shot stopper’s next destination has not yet been confirmed, but his availability is expected to attract interest from clubs looking for a proven and experienced goalkeeper.
