Ikorodu City have strengthened their squad in the race for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with the acquisition of striker Chinedu Akuvuo, aiming to add firepower as the season enters its crucial stages. The Nigerian top flight leaders revealed the new signing amid preparations for upcoming fixtures, including their Matchday 26 trip to Aba to face Enyimba.
Akuvuo joins the Lagos-based Oga Boys from Pallo-Lirolt in Finland, where he featured as a forward before returning to the NPFL to bolster Ikorodu City’s attacking options.
Ikorodu City have been one of the standout performers this season, rising to the top of the league table with competitive results, and the new signing is seen as part of their strategy to maintain momentum against challengers such as Rivers United and Nasarawa United.
The club’s busy mid-season recruitment underlines their ambition as they chase a first-ever NPFL title since promotion to the elite division in 2024.
Editorial
Chinedu Akuvuo’s arrival is a statement of intent from Ikorodu City as they look to sustain a strong NPFL title challenge. Adding a striker with experience abroad enhances their depth and gives coach Bright Ozebagbe more options in a congested fixture run.
Ikorodu City’s rise this season sitting at or near the summit has been one of the storylines of the 2025/26 NPFL. Although they’ve had ups and downs, including tight results like their recent 1–0 home win over 3SC, the club’s determination is clear.
With the title race finely poised, reinforcements such as Akuvuo could be decisive. Nigerian fans will be watching closely to see if this signing helps the Oga Boys sustain their challenge against more established clubs with longer NPFL pedigree.
