Barcelona Eye Lookman as Potential Signing but Not Priority

Barcelona have shown interest in Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who is expected to leave Atalanta at the end of the season.

According to reports from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants admire Lookman’s talent, but he is not among their first or second choices for the winger position in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lookman’s relationship with Atalanta has reportedly soured following a clash with manager Gian Piero Gasperini over a missed penalty in a Champions League match against Club Brugge. The Charlton Athletic academy product has since made his intention to depart this summer clear.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that the Nigerian international is almost certain to leave Atalanta at the end of the current campaign. Barcelona, keen to strengthen their attack, are considering Lookman as one of several options. Other targets include Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz.

Lookman’s contract runs until the summer of 2026, but Atalanta may opt to cash in on him for around €30 million to avoid losing the 27-year-old on a free transfer in future seasons. Since joining the Italian side from RB Leipzig in August 2022, Lookman has racked up 50 goals and 22 assists in 110 appearances across all competitions.

Currently on international duty with Nigeria, Lookman played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.
