Swedish top-flight side AIK Stockholm have completed the signing of Nigerian midfielder Henry Offia on a free transfer. Offia, 24, joins the club after parting ways with fellow Swedish team Trelleborgs FF. AIK announced Offiaโs arrival on Friday via their official website, confirming he has inked a deal that runs until the end of the 2026 season. The midfielder will don jersey number 20 at his new club.
Speaking to the clubโs media team, Offia expressed his excitement: โIt feels fantastic to finally be here. AIK is a big club with amazing fans, and I canโt wait to play in front of them and do everything I can to help the team succeed.โ
Offia has spent his professional career in Sweden, initially moving to the country in 2018 to sign with IK Sirius. His journey continued with a loan move to Sollentuna FK in 2020 before he joined Dalkurd FF. In 2022, he made a switch to Trelleborgs FF, where he made 48 league appearances and scored nine goals.

Editorial
We welcome Henry Offiaโs move to AIK Stockholm as a step forward not only for the player but also for the growing reputation of Nigerian footballers in Europe. This deal reflects how talent developed on home soil and matured abroad can consistently attract attention from clubs with historic pedigree and high ambitions.
Offiaโs journey from the Nigerian youth setup to the competitive tiers of Swedish football exemplifies the resilience and adaptability of Nigerian players. His progression underscores the importance of having strong developmental pathways for young footballers, something we must prioritise within our domestic leagues.
AIK Stockholm are getting a player who is not just technically gifted but also battle-hardened from years of playing in Sweden’s challenging second tier. His performances for Trelleborgs FF, especially his nine goals in 48 appearances, highlight his attacking contribution from midfieldโa trait that AIK will surely value.
From a broader perspective, such transfers help promote the visibility of Nigerian talent in Scandinavia and beyond. The more our players succeed abroad, the more scouts and clubs will look to Nigeria for the next big talent. But we must ask ourselvesโhow many more Offias are slipping through the cracks due to lack of infrastructure or poor management back home.
Offiaโs success is cause for celebration, but it should also be a call to action. Letโs invest in our grassroots, improve coaching standards, and create partnerships with international clubs to build more sustainable pathways. This is how we move from producing occasional success stories to becoming a consistent talent pipeline.
If AIK can see Henry Offiaโs value, then surely Nigerian football authorities must also see what is possible when we nurture and believe in our own.
