Stanley Nwabali, the 29 year old shot-stopper for Chippa United and first-choice goalkeeper for Super Eagles, looks increasingly unlikely to make the squad for Africa Cup of Nations 2025 after sustaining ankle and hand injuries.
His club boss, Vusimuzi Vilakazi, admitted the situation is concerning. “I don’t think he will make it,” he told SuperSport though he added that Nwabali personally remained hopeful of a recovery.
The injuries reportedly worsened during the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff series in Morocco last month, and Nwabali has not featured for Chippa United since.
Nwabali who had firmly established himself as the Super Eagles’ number one since the 2023 AFCON now faces a race against time if he is to join the final Nigerian squad for the tournament in Morocco.
