The Nigerian Football Federation NFF has commenced work on a significant infrastructural project, breaking ground for the construction of a Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The project, named the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel, will consist of a 68-room facility located near the NFF Secretariat. It will include two wings with 62 single rooms, four suites, and two executive suites, providing modern accommodation for national team players.
The development also includes two new training pitches one synthetic and one natural grass as well as a reconstruction of the existing synthetic pitch. Additional infrastructure improvements feature sitting terraces for spectators 1,838 seats, dressing rooms for players each accommodating 27 players at a time, and dressing rooms for officials.
The project, set to last 24 months, is being funded by FIFA through its FIFA Forward 3.0 Programme, which aims to improve football infrastructure worldwide. FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer Gelson Fernandes praised the initiative, stating that it aligns with FIFA’s mission to enhance football development and provide top-quality facilities.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau emphasized that the project is a transformational step for Nigerian football.
