Nigeria–Egypt Pre-AFCON Friendly Moved to December 16

The friendly match between Nigeria and Egypt, initially slated for Sunday, 14 December in Cairo, has been postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, 16 December.

The shift comes after a directive from FIFA allowing clubs to retain their players until 15 December — a change that affected release dates for players required by national teams.

With the rearrangement, the match will now be treated as a “practice” game, enabling both teams to use more than the standard five substitutions. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm Egypt time (7:00 pm Nigeria time) at Cairo Stadium.

For Nigeria, the postponement provides additional time for key players to arrive from their clubs ahead of the tournament. The friendly will now act as one of the final warm-up fixtures before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
