Despite recent setbacks, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has insisted the team remains fully confident of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C with only four matches remaining, trailing leaders South Africa by six points.

William Troost-Ekong’s defiance in the face of mounting pressure is both necessary and commendable. When the chips are down, a captain must lead with clarity and Ekong has done just that.

That said, Ekong is right about one thing the door isn’t shut. Four matches remain. Twelve points are still on the table. But to seize them, the Super Eagles must rediscover not just form, but fire.
The team must stop relying on individual brilliance and start functioning as a unit. The midfield must gain control, the attack must become ruthless, and the defence of Ekong’s department must cut out late lapses.
