Sevilla’s Akor Adams Dreams of Super Eagles Debut, Hails Ogbu

Sevilla striker Akor Adams has expressed his lifelong ambition to play for the Super Eagles, calling it the “highest honour” for any Nigerian footballer. The 24 year old, who enjoyed a solid campaign in La Liga, described the chance to don the national colours as something he’s hoped for since childhood.

“There is no bigger honour than representing your country. It would mean everything to me to wear the green and white jersey,” Adams said in a recent interview. Despite his club success in Spain, he maintains that international recognition with Nigeria remains a top personal goal.

Adams, who joined Sevilla from Montpellier, has seen his profile rise steadily after netting key goals in both Ligue 1 and La Liga. He has been closely monitored by Nigeria’s technical crew, although he is yet to receive a formal invitation to the senior national team.

When asked about other Nigerian players abroad, Adams reserved special praise for centre-back Igoh Ogbu, currently plying his trade with Slavia Prague. “Ogbu is something else,” Adams said. “Give him time, and he’ll be Nigeria’s best-ever centre-back. His reading of the game, composure and leadership are rare.”

Ogbu, a former Flying Eagles star, has impressed consistently in the Czech league, and Adams believes he deserves more recognition at home. “He’s playing at a top level every week, and I think people will start to see his value very soon,” he added.

Adams remains patient but hopeful, confident that a Super Eagles call-up will eventually come. “I will keep doing my best at club level. When the time is right, I believe I’ll get the call,” he concluded.

Editorial

We take Adams’ sentiments as a reminder of what the Super Eagles jersey truly represents. His reverence for the national team underscores how deeply players still value international football, even in an era dominated by club careers and mega contracts.

There is something moving about a player in Europe’s top leagues still dreaming of that green and white call-up. It affirms the emotional gravity of national service an ideal that must not be lost in the blur of endorsements and transfer fees. We applaud Adams’ humility and passion.

Equally, his praise for Igoh Ogbu shines a light on a player who often operates outside the mainstream spotlight. Too often, Nigerian defenders abroad are overlooked unless they’re in the Premier League or Serie A. Adams’ conviction about Ogbu’s potential should spark wider recognition of our defensive talent.

We must broaden our scouting lens and embrace a merit-based selection culture. Players in less-glamorous leagues still deliver elite performances, and names like Ogbu deserve opportunities to prove their worth in national colours.

We began with Adams’ heartfelt wish, and we end by reinforcing its resonance. Aspiration fuels excellence. Nigeria’s football future lies in the hands of players like Adams and Ogbu—hungry, humble, and ready to shine.
