Rangers International Head Coach and Super Eagles assistant coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has shed light on why his side were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Kun Khalifat in their NPFL season opener at home in Enugu.
Domination in the first half failed to translate into goals a familiar theme, insisted Ilechukwu, known affectionately as “The Working One.” He acknowledged that despite thorough preparation, not everything unfolded as planned, particularly after halftime.
He added:
“This was especially in the second half when we played more under pressure. I even thank God that we didn’t concede because it could have turned out a lost game today.”
Ilechukwu noted that Kun Khalifat changed tactics after the break. Whereas they were defensive initially, they grew more confident and aggressive, aiming for the win—a shift that unsettled Rangers.
He also reminded reporters of Rangers’ attacking reputation:
“Last season, Rangers were one of the highest-scoring sides in the NPFL … we were among the top six scoring sides in the league last season … scoring goals is not that easy … it’s work we are already preparing to do.”
