Former Super Falcons forward Stella Mbachu has defended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) amid rising public concerns about the treatment of the women’s national team. Mbachu stated that recent administrative lapses should not be mistaken for abandonment or indifference.
Speaking during a recent interview, Mbachu argued that the federation has a long history of supporting the Super Falcons and believes current challenges are likely short-term setbacks. “I believe they know what they are doing. Maybe they have one thing or the other maybe a showdown that’s why things are like this,” she said.

Her defence of the NFF is rooted in lived experience and that counts. She has seen the Federation at its best. But we cannot let nostalgia gloss over the realities of today. Football support systems should not operate on intermittent bursts of interest they must be consistent, professional, and responsive to evolving needs. The Super Falcons have earned that.
We do understand Mbachu’s call for patience and perspective, but we also feel the frustration of players and fans who sense that women’s football continues to play second fiddle to the men’s game.
