Leon Balogun has expressed his desire to extend his contract with Scottish Premiership side Rangers, as he enters the final months of his current deal at Ibrox.
The 36 year old centre back, who rejoined Rangers in July 2023 after a brief spell away from the club, remains eager to continue contributing to the teamโs success. โI didnโt play a lot at the beginning of my career maybe that helps me now. I feel really good,โ Balogun told the Daily Record.
โIf I can continue playing at a great club like this and contribute to more success, I have no reason to say no.โ
Balogun first joined Rangers in 2020 after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion and played a key role in the teamโs defensive line. After departing as a free agent in 2022, he had a brief stint with Queens Park Rangers before returning to the Glasgow club.

Editorial
Leon Balogunโs commitment to Rangers is both admirable and strategic. At 36, many players begin considering retirement or a move to a lower-intensity league, but Balogun still sees himself competing at the highest level. His experience, leadership, and defensive stability have made him an asset at Ibrox, and his eagerness to stay is a testament to both his professionalism and the positive environment at the club.
For Rangers, keeping Balogun could be a wise decision. His presence in the squad offers valuable experience, and his ability to step up in crucial matches has been proven time and time again. While younger defenders may be coming through the ranks, a balanced squad needs a veteran who can guide them through high pressure moments.
The club must now decide if they see Balogun as part of their long term plans. While age is a factor, his performance and fitness levels suggest he still has much to offer. Whether as a starter or a reliable backup, having a player with his mentality and experience in the dressing room can only be beneficial.
We believe Balogun deserves at least another season at Ibrox. His hunger and passion are clear, and Rangers would do well to retain a player who remains so dedicated to their cause.
