Leon Balogun, the Rangers defender, has reaffirmed his commitment to playing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, dispelling any notions of retirement from international football. Speaking to Brila FM, Balogun explained that injuries had hindered his availability during crucial periods but stressed that he remains eager to represent his country. “It’s not that I’ve not accepted an invitation. Before the World Cup break, I suffered an injury that was supposed to last a few weeks, but things didn’t go as planned,” Balogun revealed. “I’ve always been available. I’ve never said that I retired from international football, and I think the people who need to know are aware that I’m still very much willing and ambitious to represent the national team.”
The veteran defender has been in fine form for Rangers this season and boasts 46 caps and one goal for Nigeria. He was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and contributed to the team’s third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
