Manchester born Nigerian right-back Femi Seriki featured in the closing moments of Sheffield United’s heartbreaking 2–1 defeat to Sunderland in the Championship playoff final widely known as “football’s richest game.” The loss cost the Blades a potential windfall of over ₦430 billion (around £200 million), along with promotion to the Premier League.

Sheffield United had taken the lead in the 25th minute through Tyrese Campbell, following a counter-attack orchestrated from a Sunderland corner and capped by Gustavo Hamer’s assist. Harrison Burrows thought he had doubled the advantage, but his goal was disallowed after VAR found an offside in the build-up.
