Boniface’s Goal Drought Persists as Bremen Lose 3–2 at Hamburg

Victor Boniface came off the bench for Werder Bremen in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash at Hamburger SV — yet the striker remains without a league goal for the season after his side fell 3–2 in a dramatic derby.

Bremen took the lead just before half-time through Jens Stage, but the hosts replied after the break. Albert Sambi Lokonga equalised in the 63rd minute, and 18 year old defender Luka Vuskovic gave Hamburg the lead just before the 75th minute. Bremen responded through Justin Njinmah to make it 2–2.  But in the 84th minute, Yussuf Poulsen struck the winner for Hamburg, condemning Bremen to their defeat.

Boniface entered the match in the 79th minute but was unable to find the net. The loss leaves Bremen 11th on the Bundesliga log with 15 points. As for Boniface, the wait for his first league goal for Bremen continues — he has now featured in 10 Bundesliga games this season without scoring, though he has registered two assists.
