Solution FC’s Promotion Hopes Hit After Draw with Gateway United

Head coach of Solution FC, Gabriel Ezema, has expressed disappointment following his side’s 2-2 home draw with Gateway United in Matchday 17 of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference B. The result has left Solution FC’s aspirations of finishing in the top two and securing a place in the Super 8 Playoffs out of their control.

Despite a commanding first-half performance at the Awka City Stadium, where Romanus Chinonso and Chukwuemeka Oyieke scored in the 25th and 45th minutes respectively, Solution FC could not maintain their lead. Gateway United fought back with second-half goals from Taofeek Babatunde (59’) and Samuel Christian (72’), snatching a valuable point away from home.

With just three matches remaining, Solution FC sits fifth on the table with 25 points. Coach Ezema lamented his team’s poor finishing, citing missed clear cut chances, including one from inside the six-yard box.

“We missed several unpardonable chances. Now, whether we make the top two is no longer in our hands. We’ll just keep working, play our remaining matches, and hope for favourable results elsewhere,” Ezema stated.

The team’s next fixture is an away clash against First Bank of Lagos.

Editorial

Football often mirrors life: full of hope, drama, and heartbreak. For Solution FC, their campaign in the Nigeria National League has become a cautionary tale of how fragile leads and missed chances can derail dreams. What should have been a routine home win against Gateway United turned into a gut-wrenching draw, leaving Coach Gabriel Ezema and his team grasping at what could have been.

Ezema’s honest assessment is telling. When a coach speaks of “unpardonable chances” and a promotion dream slipping away, it’s clear that the frustration runs deep. The inability to protect a 2-0 lead at home especially with such high stakes—points to lapses in concentration and finishing that have haunted the team throughout the season.

Now sitting in fifth place, Solution FC can no longer chart their own path to the Super 8. Their fate is tangled with other results, a position no competitive team wants to be in. But in football, hope never truly dies. If Ezema’s men can dig deep and finish the season with belief and urgency, a miracle might still unfold.

What matters most now is how they respond. Do they fade into the shadows or rise to the occasion, however slim their chances may be? As they prepare for their clash with First Bank, they must play not just with skill but with the desperation of a team unwilling to let the season slip into regret.
