Werder Bremen fullโback Felix Agu, now an eligible Super Eagles player, has set his sights on leading Nigeria to victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Agu formalised his international switch after being cleared by FIFA, following two Germany U21 friendlies in 2019ย a move he described as a way to โconnect more to my rootsโ. He made his debut during the Unity Cup in London, playing 83 minutes in the final as Nigeria drew 2โ2 with Jamaica before winning on penalties.
At just 25, Agu believes success with Nigeria would eclipse any club achievement. He declared, โThe goal is to win the African Cup of Nations againย not just make the final, but win it. Of courseโฆ to qualify for the World Cup, and itโs next year so weโll try our best to make itโ.
Coach Eric Chelle has welcomed his arrival, seeing him as a valuable addition to a squad already brimming with talent such as Tella, Onyeka, Boniface and Maduka Okoye all of whom greeted Agu warmly.

Weโve seen Felix Aguโs career evolve impressively from the German youth system to a Bundesliga starting role with Werder Bremen and now a key figure in the Super Eagles. His choice reflects both personal conviction and professional ambition.
We believe this dual-national shift sends a powerful message: embracing identity can align seamlessly with ambition. His statement, โto connect more to my roots,โ speaks to a desire that extends beyond football itโs about heritage and national pride.
We also feel Aguโs timing couldnโt be better. With AFCON less than a month away and World Cup qualifiers looming in September, his integration could provide Nigeria with a new dimension at full-back pace, Bundesliga seasoning and fresh perspective.
We hold the view that Nigeria are building a squad rooted in quality and diversity. Aguโs arrival adds both depth and versatility, qualities essential for global competitions. If he continues to match expectation, his presence could prove decisive.
We remain convinced that Agu will fit seamlessly into the Super Eagles setup. His grounding in both German and Nigerian cultures makes him more than ready heโs a catalyst, not just a squad addition. And with that mindset, heโs poised to help Nigeria secure continental triumph and global entry.
