Head coach Christian “De Bull” Okonkwo has resigned from his managerial position at Calabar Rovers, CompleteSports.com can exclusively report.
Okonkwo, who joined the club ahead of the opening of the 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, stepped down after the conclusion of the first round of Conference B fixtures.
The former Solution FC and Awka coach said his departure was driven by serious threats to his personal safety, which forced him to withdraw from day to day coaching duties. “I had to leave the club to save my life,” he told CompleteSports.
Okonkwo explained that the situation went beyond ordinary pressure, leading to “open and physical confrontation” from an unnamed former club handler believed to have previously coached one of Nigeria’s junior national teams. He declined to reveal the person’s identity.
He added that the club management was fully aware of the incidents and that his decision was made to protect himself and his family. Okonkwo said he was resting at home at the time of the interview.
